Why me?

Posted by Debbie on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 01:07 pm

I apologize for not updating this blog before now.  I was suffering from a debilitating fatigue which turned out to be mono!  That, and going to doctors and having multiple tests and procedures.

To top things off, on November 20th, we had to have our beloved pet goat, Nick, euthanized.  He developed calculi, despite our efforts to prevent it, and although we followed the vet's instructions for treating him to the letter, he did not recover.  The vet came out on Sunday eving and humanely put him out of his misery.  After a quick post mortem, she said he had a very narrow urethra and bile ducts.  She said that she could have op[erated but it would have only delayed death a short while.  She was amazed he lived to be 2 1/2 with the defect he had.  She reviewed our feed and health management and said we were doing everything right.

Because you have to have at least two goats, we needed to find Molly a playmate quickly.  Our breeder, who we got Nick and Molly from, offered us Joy-Joy, their half-sister.  Joy-Joy is 2 months older than Molly but much smaller.  she had also never been away from her mother before.  We've had her nearly 2 weeks now and she's adjusting nicely.  the breeder said that Joy-Joy didn't know it, but she had just won the goat lottery by coming to live with us.  what a sweet thing to say!  They also gave us Joy-Joy for free.  In fact, they had even discussed a few months ago giving her to us for Joy-Joy's sake, as they couldn't give her the type of attention they felt she needed.  Their herd is much larger and Joy-Joy was one of the smallest.

So, as the tile of this post says, "Why me?"  Actually, that's what most people would say, given our circumstances in life.  but, I have stopped asking that question altogether.  I don't even wonder anymore.  I KNOW that all things work together for good to those who trust in Him.!  I know that He will not give me any more than I can bear.  I know that anything that comes has been allowed by Him for my ultimate good and for His glory.

So, when I am in pain, when money is tight, when things go wrong, I trust that He has a purpose and I just ask that He give me the grace to bear it and the wisdom to learn any lessons from it.

Trusting in Jesus is a very freeing thing.  You have to give up worrying, which is  REALLY hard to do.  It's like when Peter walked on the water.  He was fine as long as he put his eyes on the Lord and ignored the wind and waves around him.  but, as soon as he let his circumstances shift his focus, he sank.

I am trying to keep my eyes on the Lord!

Treating the symptoms and not the illness

The governor of Texas is going to have a prayer event calledm The Response. At this event will be representatives of different faiths and many from the New apostolic movement and the prosperity gospel.  On the surface, getting together to pray seems harmless. The Tea Party movement strives to change society by legislation.  So many Christians are jumping on board to take the country back.  Again, on the surface, a good idea.  The problem is that locking hands with people of other faiths and false religions does nothing to attack the root problem.  The root problem is that people are not saved and living their lives according to the teachings of Christ.  If you change a person's heart, you will change their behavior.  Trying to change their behavior in the hopes of changing their hearts just doesn't work.

Jesus said you don't put new wine in old wineskins or wash only the oustide of dishes.  Making people behave one way on the outside when their hearts are still lost accomplishes nothing.

So, yes, we should vote and participate in government, but don't think that  legislation will save souls.  Don't join hands with unbelievers and give credence to their faith and causes just to get them on board with your politics.  We MUST stay true to the Gospel and to the true salvation found only in JesusChrist!
